Soufou mad yiwi yiwi (2024)

An Amazigh bride finds herself in an alternative techno universe. As a cyborg, she inhabits a space void of the white gaze. Gradually, she returns to practices and objects that have a specific meaning in the artist’s family background. Traditional practices that have been slowly disappearing during her lifetime.

Soufou mad yiwi yiwi is an exploration and fantasy of Amazigh traditions in relation to a hyper-technical world. The imaginary visual language of these technologies is not neutral, but strongly determined within a Western framework. Amazigh politics are too often erased or misrecognized in the European imagination. This video work is a form of reclamation.
